Tom joined the Department of Scandinavian Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2000.
He holds a Ph.D. in Folklore and Folklife from the University of Pennsylvania and teaches, writes and researches on a variety of Nordic topics, particularly Finnish and Sámi. He is currently director of the Folklore Studies Program and is a member of the Religious Studies Program as well. |

Tom worked together with the University's Center for Russian, East European and Central Asian (CREECA) to plan and host the 2009 BALSSI, the Baltic Studies Summer Institute.
