The Swedish Language Program at The University of Wisconsin-Madison is committed to guiding students to a mastery of the Swedish language and providing students with cultural knowledge as well. The Swedish courses emphasize acquisition and development of the four basic language learning skills: reading, listening comprehension, speaking and writing. Class time is crucial for practicing these skills, so, attendance is essential and participation is graded. We practice a largely communicative approach, so that students are using their new language skills from the outset. Cultural information about Swedes and Swedish-speaking peoples is also included in these courses.
